The research project Mapa Escolar de Valencia (School Map of Valencia) was born out of an agreement between the City Council and the University of Valencia in order to carry out an investigation of the compulsory education system of the city and propose, if necessary, modifications to the current school zoning. When we talk with basic education´s teachers there is an impression in the case of learning Social Sciences, and Geography in particular that these sciences are not useful for the explanation of socio-environmental and daily problems. In this research, improvement proposals are sought so that students are motivated to learn about these problems. The essay focus on the possibility of alternative idea of waterfront. Rather than considering it as the crash between the built and the unbuilt, it can be assumed as a contamination. In this sense the line of the coast - its very linearity - becomes a design source. Recent projects are analized under this light.
